Fairy house

We are working our way to a fairy garden. We want to use as many natural items as possible. So instead of buying a fairy home from scratch we are using things from around the yard. Maybe a fairy will breath life into them 🙂

Here Nadia is painting a home. We found a round stone from the yard. Nadia painted windows and a door.

Wolf mask

Ms. Nadia now has the sewing fever. She made a cute wolf mask. I helped her cut out the felt and she stitched it all together.

She added some string and cut out slits for the eyes.

Sewing a bunny in a blanket

Nadia has been learning to sew. She is super excited and is enjoying it very much.

Here, she is making a little bunny rabbit. Isn’t he cute?

She made him a little pillow and a blanket with a pretty flower on it. She stuffed the bunny and the pillow with Ozzie’s hair 🙂

Here he is, all snug in his little Altoids bed.

Here’s to more sewing projects!

Cheers,

Aruna

Nadia’s Yosemite week

I asked Nadia to help pen today’s blog. Below words and images are all made by her at Yosemite.

I went to Yosemite National park this summer. I stayed in a tent at half dome village. I swam in lake Tenaya and the waters of the lower Yosemite falls. I hiked to Vernal falls. I filled my water bottle with the cold water of fern spring and drank the fresh water. I saw deer and squirrels. My Mama taught me how to use my Fujifilm XT1. I love taking pictures.

Sunset from Tunnel View

This was a series of 6 photos taken by Nadia on a tripod, which I later merged together to create this beautiful sunset using photoshop. No other tweaks were made. Nadia was delighted to see the results of using the bracketing technique.

Volunteering your time

Every year on the occasion of her birthday, Nadia chooses one charity to donate to. It’s not just about writing a check, it’s about volunteering her time and the compassion behind her actions.

This year, she hosted an art and craft project session and request her friends to donate to benefit Syrian refugee families. These families raise goats as their livelihood for cheese and milk sales. We donated at http://www.gatherforgoats.com. She also painted a beautiful painting that tells a story (reference: red and black image).

Everyone, grownups and children enjoyed the art and craft activities on a beautiful sunny day.

Polar bears international

What better way to explain the impact of climate change than learning about the condition of polar bears today?

Here, Nadia is drawing and cutting out pieces for making her polar bear.

Drawing on the paws and the face…

And gluing the pieces together…

Here’s our majestic polar bear…

What other animals are affected by climate change? She asks…A Koala too, remember the Australian summers of 2009? Here’s a great link to read up on (Climate change impacting Koalas) and share with your little ones.

Some playtime…

And some reading up on polars and their shrinking habitats….

What can we do to help? She asks…we’re figure something out, I tell her 😦
